When PCem is updated do I have to reinstall all my Windows and DOS systems or there is no problem with version change?

Usually you can keep everything but it's a good idea to create a backup of your previous PCem folder and your floppy/zip/hard disc images if those are on another folder before trying a new version, this way if something goes incompatible or buggy you won't lose your job until the problem gets fixed.

 Making regular backups is very useful also if a machine hangs and the disc image gets corrupted, you have problems due to intallation of new programs or drivers on the emulated machines and so on.

 To make backups remember to close PCem first, even the Configuration Manager window, otherwise you can end with an incomplete or corrupted backup.

Commandos Behind Enemy Lines (at least the demo) seems to give S3 Trio64 1mb a nasty freeze and some cursor transparency issues. 430VX PMMX233 W95C AWE32. 8-24-96 Trio64 driver on DX 6.1 (Early '99 period setup)

Also not sure if it's real behavior or not anymore as it's been so long, Silpheed on IBM XT 4.77mhz has some serious keyboard control issues the faster machines don't have. Arrow keys stick or don't respond. 8088/4.77, 512kb RAM, CGA

* Edited my previous post to add missing "MMX" to CPU type

I've tested CL-GD5434 and Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 with (default?) 4MB and with desktop in 16 bit color depth

I've played Commandos BEL and BCD for a few minutes with S3 Trio64 with 1MB and it's fine too with full versions of those games,
but only after reinstalling DirectX to update video drivers and setting desktop color depth to 16 bit, in 256 colors it refuses to start, says can't find DirectX 5

Maybe should you add in the "Not bug" category "Pictionary " and "Hitman: Codename 47" (this later game has crashes with Glide, but works fine with Direct3D)
I made a review here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=640

More stuff that works fine on 430VX PMMX233 SBPCI Trio64 2MB Win98se:
- Blood 2
- CART: Precision Racing
- Clusterball
- Dethkarz
- G-Police
- Heretic II
- Monster Truck Madness 2
- Redline Racer (1998 US release)
- Wetrix

Buggy:
- Age of Empires II (Hangs in 1024x768. 800x600 fine. In-game window issues (i.e. opening the chat window will have the top half of the screen stuck without updates))
- Darkened Skye (crashes PCem when you access one of the menus)

Code: Select all

Bad CMDFIFO packet 3b03126e 001f27ac
CMDFIFO packet 5 has byte disables set 3f0301ad
- Jane's F-15 (Software and 3dfx both have polygon issues, 3dfx has sky and 2d issues)
- Jane's WWII Fighters (3dfxV2 Glide mip palette issues, D3D is fine)
- Star Wars Rogue Squadron (some flickering polygons in Glide, D3D has fog issues)
- Thunder Brigade (Unstable (can suddenly terminate itself without error); voxel terrain has strange tiling artifacts; alpha blending issues, sticky mouse cursor. Also occurs on WinChip Interpreter and non-MMX processors)
- Tribes 2 (Tries to initialize the V2 through OpenGL, ends up hanging at a black screen. COULD be a real bug?). 2002 budget version (the one gamespy and hirez freely released) tested.
- Urban Chaos (Videos don't display, slowdown near framebuffer reflection puddles)

Not initializing:
- Flying Heroes (Doesn't want to initialize the V2 alone, needs a host video card with 3d (ViRGE) to work, game itself is fine afterward)

Just going to link my Starfleet Academy crash here as well since it still seems to repro, unless I forgot to remove something: https://pcem-emulator.co.uk/phpBB3/view ... f=2&t=2967

I've reported this keyboard bug a few times... has it been solved?

I guess that "flushing" all keys pressed (so the keyboard status is without any key pressed) after recovering focus will do the trick. Or maybe is a flag (like "Ctrl was pressed")? In any case, pressing again Ctrl to "unstuck" the keyboard does not work.

- Dungeon Keeper 2
- Pax Corpus
- Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Buggy:

- Killing Time (Game quits when a ingame ghost is done playing its video. Doesn't occur on WinChip Interpreter)

PB570 P75 GD5430 SB16 8mb Win95 (and all the packard bloat to go with it):

Good:
- Area 51
- Ascendancy

NFL Blitz 2000 also gives a CMDFIFO crash to Voodoo2 when using the Glide3x backend

Code: Select all

Bad CMDFIFO packet 3f49cb0e 0011f1b0
Bad CMDFIFO packet 433ad032 0011f1b4
and when using Glide2x, there's this fog bug:
blitz2kf.jpg
blitz2kf.jpg (171.31 KiB) Viewed 2752 times
It'll also cause a bad LFB crash sometimes

Code: Select all

Swap buffer 00000000 1 0FA105B0 0
Swap buffer 00000000 1 0FA105B0 0
Swap buffer 00000000 1 0FA105B0 0
Swap buffer 00000000 1 0FA105B0 0
Swap buffer 00000000 1 0FA105B0 0
voodoo_fb_writel : bad LFB format 00000054
This particular problem happens on a snow field. To consistently get the affected stadium, type in (default keys) keypad 111155 then press up at the match-up screen

430VX Pmmx233 Single V2, Jan 00 drivers, 98se. Also occurs on Voodoo Graphics

I think Rogue Squadron's D3D fog bug also has this artifact.

A little late to the game (v14 was released), but just noticed this when using a dump from one of my old computers. A transition effect in the custom Windows frontend gets garbled.

Real systems: ATI 3D Rage II+, GD5434
Affected VGA in PCem: ATI Graphics Pro Turbo
Unnafected VGA in PCem: every other VGA

Not sure if worth checking because the emulated VGA is not the exact same as the real VGA, but another of my systems has a GD5434 and the transition works fine in PCem.

Config: Intel Advanced/*, any Pentium, Windows 95 default drivers for everything in emulated and real systems.

This happens:

Still on a Midway sports kick

NBA Jam Tournament Edition (DOS) has flickering issues no matter the speed and it occurs on Trio64 and Cirrus GD543x
NBA Hangtime (Windows) runs perfectly.

Same PMMX233 system above on AWE32/W95.

Also Cyberbykes can have the same Magic Carpet VGA issue with Trio64 if you choose 640x480 and 320x200 used in setup (i.e. 640x480 menus switching to 320x200 for ingame)

Interesting. I played DXBall 2 only in PCem so there's no problem with that version in PCem.

Ok so I went hunting around the internet [Moderator edit - link removed]

Take note of [], this seems to be an Image of an official cumulative update disk released by Microsoft in 2004, and on it is every official update for Windows 98 and Windows ME, including the non security fixes. If you are wanting a way to install all the official fixes for win9x without the unofficial bluescreen inducing frankenbuild crap, then this is what you are looking for.

The other ISO's have updates for WIndows95 but they are a loose collection.

Anyway, after running the installer contained on [] within Windows 98 SE, Croc now works! I wonder what else having these fixes?

I thought that would have been allowed as it is purely a iso image containing updates once freely downloadable by anyone from the windows update website before they got removed after support was dropped. It's not the whole OS.
