Stuttering sound in Win98 machine

Post by scifirenegade »

Been having some trouble with the machines I emulate. I use either Soundblaster 16 or AWE 32.

The sound stutters a lot. I installed Soundblaster 16 and AWE 32 drivers, with no luck.

The machine I'm emulating right now is a Shuttle HOT-557, with a Pentium MMX 233, with 128 Mb RAM.
My own machine has 8 Gb of RAM, the processor is an AMD Rizen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.10 GHz.

I don't know what else to do.

Thank you!

Ryzen 5 3500 U is unfortunately too slow for proper Pentium MMX 233 emulation which is why you're getting stuttering sound. Try selecting Pentium MMX 166.

OP might be able to get away with a Pentium 200, that's the limit of what I could do on my 3600X and currently can do on my 5600X. 233Mhz is definitely to hot though and will cause emulation slowdown when the virtual CPU is at high loads.

True. Maybe also Pentium II 233 given that Pentium II emulation is slightly faster than Pentium one, although P200 is still a safer bet.
