Nuclear Strike graphical issues

Post by DSN »

I found some glitches in Nuclear Strike.

1. The screen gets distorted in the intro movie. The rest of the movies are fine.

2. I don't know if this is a bug, but PCem wrongly reports 640x480 resolution as 320x480 and 320x200/320x240 resolutions as 160x200/160x240.
Also occurs in Quake II and almost any Windows game (and even on the Windows desktop). Does not occur with DOS games.

If the wrongly reported resolution is a bug in PCem, please tell me.
My configuration:
Windows 95.cfg

I've seen the Nuclear Strike video corruption happen with real hardware (Voodoo Banshee) so i'm leaning towards EA goof than PCem bug.

I'm currently using the built-in GD-5430 video of the PackardBell PB570.

I switched to a GD-5434 but the corruption persists. I'll try another now.

I now switched to the Number Nine 9FX and the video corruption does not occur anymore and PCem reports the resolution correctly. But with this card the game doesn't allow to select 320x200/320x240 resolutions, so the game runs slowly in 640x480 with my config.

If certain card has issues with certain games I'd test it in real hardware before stating PCem has a bug
If certain card or emulated config runs slow with a particular game, well... it's emulated stuff, how thing really were...
Wait until Sarah finishes with the Matrox Mystique, it has a rep for having excellent 2D performance

I think it is known that the GD-5434 still has some issues. The Win 3.1 drivers show them really well in some GUI elements.

I switched now to a Paradise Bahamas 64 and again the distortion does not occur.
But also with this card the game only allows a minimum resolution of 640x400.
My question: what graphics card do you recommend for Win95? I want to play the game in 320x200 resolution rather than 640x480 and without the wrong resolution bug (and even without graphical issues).
