In PCem v15 as well as PCem-dev commit 063a40d, RedHat Linux 3.0.3 (kernel 1.2.13) crashes during kernel initialization with the following error when the recompiler is enabled:
Machine config (PCem v15 and PCem-dev):
Machine: [Socket 7] Shuttle HOT-557 (broken), [486] Award SiS 496/497 (working in interpreter mode)
CPU: Intel Pentium 133, Intel 486DX4/100
Memory: 32MB
Video: Phoenix S3 Trio64
Sound: Sound Blaster 16
HDD: 2GB IDE
FDD: 1.44MB 3.5"
CD-Rom: 8x PCemCD
Mouse: 2-button PS/2
Machine config (PCem v14):
Machine: [Socket 7] Award 430VX PCI
CPU: Intel Pentium 133
Memory: 32MB
Video: Phoenix S3 Trio64
Sound: Sound Blaster 16
HDD: 2GB IDE
FDD: 1.44MB 3.5"
CD-Rom: 8x PCemCD
Mouse: 2-button PS/2
The same bootdisk works in both versions when using the 486 interpreter as well as in v14 with both the interpreter and recompiler.[BUG] RedHat Linux 3.0.3 (kernel 1.2.13) crashes during startup

Re: [BUG] RedHat Linux 3.0.3 (kernel 1.2.13) crashes during startup
I'm not sure if it's the same underlying bug but extremely similar symptoms occur in Debian 0.91 (kernel 0.99.14t) when the recompiler is enabled:
Machine configuration:
Machine: [486] AMI 486 clone
CPU: Intel 486DX2/66
Memory: 8MB
Video: Tseng ET4000AX
HDD controller: Adaptec AHA-1542C
HDD: 504MB SCSI
FDD: 3.5" 1.44MB
CD-ROM: 4x PCemCD
Mouse: Microsoft 2-button serial
This crash occurs right after Linux begins loading the ramdisk.Machine configuration:

I'm also had same issues but with Debian 0.93R6.

I still need to test some newer versions but this issue seems to affect kernels from 0.98.pl1-36 (used in Softlanding Linux 0.98) to at least 2.0.18 (RedHat 4.0) with what I've tested so far.

The kernel (2.2.14-5.0) that shipped with Red Hat 6.2 works without a flaw.win2kgamer wrote: ↑Sat 14 Mar, 2020 5:24 pm I still need to test some newer versions but this issue seems to affect kernels from 0.98.pl1-36 (used in Softlanding Linux 0.98) to at least 2.0.18 (RedHat 4.0) with what I've tested so far.

Re: [BUG] RedHat Linux 3.0.3 (kernel 1.2.13) crashes during startup
I have done some more testing and it seems all 2.0.x (and earlier) kernels are affected while all 2.2 kernels are not affected. The issue occurs on kernels as new as 2.0.37 (Slackware 3.9) but not on 2.2.5 (RedHat 6.0) or later 2.2 kernels. Kernel 2.4.3 (Mandrake Linux 8.0) is also unaffected.

Re: [BUG] RedHat Linux 3.0.3 (kernel 1.2.13) crashes during startup
All of the affected kernels are now working as of commit 6e158be. The same commit appears to have also fixed a regression I saw in NeXTSTEP 3.1 as well (it's still not installable but the kernel no longer crashes.)
